Fuse Selection Chart
This chart contains some of the normally stocked and common fuse styles and ratings. Many more styles and current ratings are available upon request.
Cartridge-style fuses provide convenience and are an excellent choice for use in Weidmuller Fused Terminal Blocks (such as the WSI 6, WSI 6/2, ASK 1, ZSI 2.5, ZSI 2.5/2, etc). Cartridge style fuses feature a metal part on each end that is used for the input and output electric current connection. The two ends are connected on te outside via a cylinder of a non-conductive (dielectric) material. This material is usually glass, fiberglass, or ceramic.
The two metal ends are connected internally via a filament or a thin wire. The size of this filament is specially designed to melt when the current through it reaches the design limit.
The inside of the cylinder may be empty (or air filled) or may be filled with more dielectric material to insure the safety of the equipment into which the fuse is installed.
The variety of Weidmuller terminal block product lines provides the engineer with a broad list of options for fuse selection. Smaller fuses such as the 5x20mm and 1/4" x 1-1/4" are easy to insert into the hinged top style of fuse blocks. These are usually selected for lower voltages and lower current rated applications. For higher current carrying applications a larger fuse such as the 13/32" x 1-1/2" size fuse may be more appropriate.
Always consult the time-current curve charts for the selected fuse to insure that the specified fuse will adequately protect the equipment according to the manufacturer's specifications.
